Headmaster will move to Plymouth

The Headmaster, Jonathan Standen, has announced that he has accepted the post of Headmaster at Plymouth College.  He will leave the Crypt School at Easter 2015 and will be succeeded by Nick Dyer, the current Deputy Head.  Jonathan will be sadly missed by the whole Crypt Community.  He has been an excellent Head and leaves the School in a commanding position.  The last OFSTED report was brilliant and the Summer GCSE results were the best ever achieved.  An excellent, new £1.8M Science, Mathematics and Engineering block will open next year due, in great measure, to the Headmaster’s efforts.

The Committee of the Old Cryptians’ Club has benefitted from Jonathan’s unstinting support and he has attended many OCC events during his time as Headmaster.  The Club wish him well when he takes up his appointment at Plymouth.

475th Anniversary Book

Copies of this brilliant book are still available.  Organised in 6 parts, photographs, captions and linking text are skilfully blended in 120 pages to tell the story of the Crypt School from its founding in 1539 to the present day.  Surely a must-have for any former pupil of the Crypt.  The price (in paperback) is £15.  Please contact Howard Allen on 01452 812638 or at

Old Cryptians Directory

This directory, with abbreviated details for OCC Members, has just been updated.  A reminder – to access the directory you need to be registered on the OCC website as a subscriber.  It can be found under Membership/Members Area.

BEST CRICKET PLAYERS EVER – the Match on 3rd August

Greg Barton has assembled a squad of (possibly?) the best cricket players ever – all Old Cryptians – to field a team and play a Gloucester City side on Sunday 3rd August.  A few more players would be welcome but support would also be great.  Come along to the Spa ground in time for a 2 p.m. start and give these vintage cricketers your full support.

Posting of Cryptian delayed

Apologies to Old Cryptians who are waiting for the delivery, by post, of the magazine.  We rely on the helpful School Office to carry out this task however the staff are on holiday for a couple of weeks. (Posted on behalf of Howard Allen.)
