Lottery Funds for the Discover DeCrypt Project
The Project Team are delighted to announce that a substantial grant of nearly £1.4M has been awarded to the Discover DeCrypt project. The renovation and regeneration of the ancient Crypt Schoolroom and St. Mary de Crypt church has thus taken a big step forward.
Milestone for the Discover DeCrypt Project
The online and paper versions of the bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) were submitted on 19th August 2016. The bid is for substantial funding of both St. Mary de Crypt Church and the adjoining Tudor Schoolroom in Southgate Street (the first location of the Crypt School). This is an exciting milestone after many months of hard work by the dedicated team. Further details at

Discover DeCrypt – Appeal to all Old Cryptians
The project Discover DeCrypt is seen as the last real opportunity to save St Mary de Crypt Church and the Old Crypt Tudor Schoolroom in Southgate St, Gloucester from closure.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) have grant funded the initial design stage of the project. The delivery of the project is to cost in excess of £1.5 million, of which HLF will be requested to fund over £1 million, subject to match-funding from both the private and public sectors of £0.5 million being achieved.
A good proportion of these costs are confidently expected to be met by the generosity of various organisations and trusts. However, the project will not succeed without the grass-roots support of local individuals and organisations.
In view of the importance of making these important historic buildings suitable for wider use within the community, as Old Cryptians, we need to be actively involved as both ‘Friends and Donors’ in supporting the renovation of these historic buildings.
