Old Cryptians’ Club Annual Dinner

Reminder – please keep the weekend of 28/29 March 2014 free.  An announcement will soon be made about the arrangements for the AGM, Annual Dinner and other events in this the 475th anniversary year of the Crypt Grammar School.

Remembrance Day Services

Old Cryptians are welcome to attend one or both of the Remembrance Day Services, these being the Cenotaph Service in London on Sunday, 10th November (please contact John Hughes) and the School Service on Monday, 11th November (please contact Sue Wales at the School).

Friars Orchard name restored

The plan for the housing and green space on the “Gloscat” site is progressing. It has just been announced that the site, off Brunswick Road, will revert to its historic name of Friars Orchard. The site is adjacent to the St Mary de Crypt church and the old schoolroom. It is hoped that the some of the housing developments will also carry names with Crypt School conections.

The “Citizen” features Eric Stephens

Eric Stephens (1950-56) was recently honoured by becoming President of Gloucester Rugby Football Club. This is a very worthy position for an exceptional player who has a lifetime association with this great club.  Eric is also a very active Old Cryptian and was President of the OCC in the year 2011-12.

In the “Weekend Citizen” of 3rd August Eric is featured signing a special board which is located in the newly opened Gloster Boys Bar at Kingsholm – a focal point for anyone who has had the privilege to wear the cherry and white colours.  Eric qualifies in magnificent style, having played in 221 Club matches in his long career for GRFC.  At the opening ceremony, Eric paid tribute to the many people, including those on the Former Players Association, who worked to create the new bar with its memorabilia of past glories.

Posting of “Cryptian” delayed

To those Old Cryptians who normally receive the magazine by post.  The publishing team apologise for the late distribution of the “Cryptian” this summer.  Copies will be despatched from the School as soon as possible in August.

Founders’ Day 2013

The OCC Committee do hope that you have this date firmly in your diary and hope to see you at one or all of the activities.

OLD CRYPTIANS’ CENTENARY BURSARY 2001

By Clive Thomas, President 2012-13 and Chairman of the Trustees

 The Trustees’ Audit: January 2013

Since the launch of the Bursary on Founders’ Day, July 2002, only 98 of a vast number Old Cryptians, have become donors. Sadly 18 of these persons have passed away. Ideally in the short term the Trustees seek to make good the shortfall and take our number of donors beyond 100. (more…)
