AGM and Reunion Dinner 2016

Invitations to this year’s function on Saturday, 12th March have been sent out to all Old Cryptians on our membership list.  For more information, and to download the forms, please look in the Events Diary on this site.  We welcome everyone with past or present connections to the Crypt School, not just members of the Old Cryptians Club.

Cenotaph Parade

A group of Old Cryptians together with five Crypt pupils from Gloucester travelled to London on Sunday to take part in the Nation’s Act of Remembrance – the Parade at the Cenotaph followed by the March to Horseguards Parade.  To be included is a very great honour for the School and the Old Cryptians’ Club.  A full report will appear in the Cryptian.

Featuring James Roose-Evans

Are Old Cryptians aware of the fantastic venture founded by a prominent OC – James Roose-Evans?  Recently James founded Frontier Theatre Productions which aims to highlight the contribution that older actors can make in a world obsessed by youth.  Big name actors are backing the project and, as well as a London base, a programme for the next 12 months has been established.  Frontier TP has received charitable status and there is thus the opportunity to back this fledgling company by becoming an angel at an appropriate (and tax efficient) level.

Updating Personal Details (2)

Sue Wales of the School Secretariat is now assisting Nino Pelopida of the Old Cryptians’ Committee and will be contacting all members, via email and post to confirm personal details. If you don’t reply your copy of ‘The Cryptian’ magazine may be delayed!  With Ms Wales on board the updating process should be much quicker. Those who have already contacted Nino need take no further action.  Once again, if you have any queries, please contact Nino on 01722 324094.  Thank you.

Updating personal details

Nino Pelopida (1955-63), a member of the Old Cryptians’ Committee, is emailing members to update details that are held securely on our membership database.  If you would like to contact Nino to discuss this exercise (or in fact to pre-empt an email), please contact him on 01722 324094.  It is important to have correct postal addresses in advance of the summer holiday posting of the Cryptian.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Discover DeCrypt – Appeal to all Old Cryptians

The project Discover DeCrypt is seen as the last real opportunity to save St Mary de Crypt Church and the Old Crypt Tudor Schoolroom in Southgate St, Gloucester from closure.

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) have grant funded the initial design stage of the project.  The delivery of the project is to cost in excess of £1.5 million, of which HLF will be requested to fund over £1 million, subject to match-funding from both the private and public sectors of £0.5 million being achieved.

A good proportion of these costs are confidently expected to be met by the generosity of various organisations and trusts.  However, the project will not succeed without the grass-roots support of local individuals and organisations.

In view of the importance of making these important historic buildings suitable for wider use within the community, as Old Cryptians, we need to be actively involved as both ‘Friends and Donors’ in supporting the renovation of these historic buildings.

Please call Richard Browning on 01452-310321 or email richardbrowning@live.co.uk for more details as required and an explanatory leaflet

Golf on Monday, 29th June 2015 – an update

Bob Timms, who is organising the golf competition on the morning of Founders’ Day, would love to see more players. To avoid the bother of posting a cheque, he says that we can pay on the day. The format is individual Stableford over 18 holes of the charming Rodway Hill GC course at Highnam, just outside Gloucester. We will meet from about 0930 for coffee and bacon rolls with the first tees at 1015. After a round in the company of Old Cryptians and friends we will gather in the clubhouse for lunch and the presentation of the splendid Tony Beard Cup for the best net score. There will also be a prize for the best guest score. All this for £27, so don’t delay. Please phone Bob on 01452 813402 or 07881401295, or contact him at robert-timms@hotmail.co.uk

Help with Archive: Meet old friends

At our May Committee meeting  the Headmaster Nick Dyer requested help from Old Cryptians to clear old school archives to make way for much needed space.  To manage this effectively an initial survey is needed followed by an orderly removal of various inventories to other locations.  At present we have in mind  transfer in part to the City Archive in Alvin St. which needs checking out.  Please let Richard Browning know on 01452-310321 or email richardbrowning@live.co.uk if and when you are able to help. We can then organise groups of 2 to perform the task before the end of summer term.
