Malcom Haines (1945 – 51)

Malcolm Haines has recently passed away at the age of 84 (born 1932), after a long illness bravely borne. He was one of several brothers who attended the Crypt School and their sporting achievements were many.  Malcolm flourished on the rugby field where he played with distinction for a number of years at hooker, including many seven aside tournaments.  He played in the golden period 1950-60 and for several seasons captained the Old Cryptians RFC.  He was a mainstay in the OCRFC and his presence will be sorely missed.

(From Greg Barton) “Sad news indeed – Malcolm “Knocker” Haines was a true OCRFC stalwart. He was due to visit the Rugby club only a few weeks ago but was unable to make it. I am sure there will be many who will want to attend and say farewell to a true friend, as well as sharing many memories .”

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, 4th January 2017 at 11.00 am at the Gloucester Crematorium, Coney Hill Road.  After the Service everyone is invited by the family for refreshments at the Old Cryptians RFC, Memorial Ground, Tuffley Avenue, Gloucester.

Donations in memory of Malcolm are for Cancer Fund UK and may be sent to Funeral Directors Cocks, 59 Hucclecote Rd, Hucclecote, Gloucestershire GL3 3TL
