Raising money for The Bursary Fund

The easy way

By changing the URL you use to access Amazon you could be donating 0.5% of the purchase price to the Bursary Fund every time you shop.  So far, OCs have raised £75 with no effort required!  Next time you are tempted to cycle Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for the bursary, think again and set up the the Amazon way – no blisters, no planning, no effort.

The simplest way to do this is to use the smile.amazon.co.uk from any PC, laptop or mobile device.  If this is your first time there, you will be asked to accept cookies – I recommend not accepting all cookies and use the confirm my choice option.  Annoyingly this takes you away from the page you want to be on,  So, go back to https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1094627-0 and select Start Shopping.

You may need to log in at this point, but from now on you should be raising money each time you shop at https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1094627-0

If you use the Amazon app on an Android phone/tablet you can set up smile.amazon in the Settings.

  1. Check that you have the latest version of the Amazon app. Update instructions are here.
  2. Open the Amazon Shopping app on your device.
  3. Login.
  4. Go into the main menu of the Amazon Shopping app and tap into ‘Settings’.
  5. Tap ‘AmazonSmile’ and follow the on-screen instructions to turn Amazon Smile on.

The instructions seem to suggest that it is the same for the iPhone/iPad app, but I don’t see it on my phone.  Instead I have saved the page using “Add to home screen” from the share options.  This saves the page you are looking at as a new “app” on your home screen (with the Amazon Smile logo).

Shopping at Amazon = Donating to The Bursary Fund

The Old Cryptians’ Club Centenary Bursary Fund is now set up to receive donations through the Amazon Smile programme. Once you have set up your Amazon Smile account, all future purchases will result in 0.5% of the price being donated to the Bursary Fund.
